Motivation for Exercising

If you've decided to go running every morning or start an exercise regime you will need to find ways to keep doing it in the long term. Whether you're training for a marathon or just to be healthy, sometimes motivation is hard to maintain. It is therefore necessary to follow some steps to put a little more excitement into your workouts.

To start, keep a note of every training session, its duration, how you felt during and after the session, and how much you enjoyed it. This will increase your awareness of your strengths and weaknesses. On days when you lack motivation it can also inspire you to look back at how much you have achieved.

Another way to maintain motivation is to reward yourself after you have completed a period of training. Set goals for time, distance or weight loss and, once you achieve them, recompense yourself. Reward yourself with new workout accessories or a massage to relax the muscles.

Choose something that will incentivise and motivate you to continue. If you often feel like giving up, consider finding a running partner or friend to keep you on track and share experiences. Sharing experiences with other runners helps you gain perspective and get moral support which is very important.

Finally, when you feel you want to stop training remember your objectives. Maybe your idea is to run a whole marathon, but you need to set realistic goals. If you've never gone for a walk you can’t expect to start with a three hour run. Start with short goals like walking a lap around the park near your house, then two laps, and you will move towards your goals gradually.

Remember that the idea of sports is to have fun.
